How do you heat a holiday resort with an outdoor pool?

An economical, autonomous and efficient heating system using a resort in the Krasnodar Territory as an example.

Ecotourism is becoming more popular every year. As a result, the number of glamping sites and holiday resorts is growing, most of them located far from cities and central heating.

When the UezD EliseEva holiday resort was being built in the hamlet of Guamka (150 km from Krasnodar), there was a need to supply the guest houses with heat and the outdoor pool, with a volume of more than 600 m³ - with year-round heating.

Why did pellet heating become the best solution?

Requirements set by the customer:
1) low fuel costs;
2) high efficiency without harm to nature.

Tasks:
1) hot water for the rooms and café, and heating them during the heating season;
2) maintaining the pool water temperature at 35-37 degrees all year round, 24/7.
Heating the pool alone requires 430 kW of heat.
The total heat demand is 750 kW.

Implementation

1. At the initial stage of building the resort, the plan was to heat the hotel rooms existing at that time, heat the 600 m³ pool and cover hot water needs; for this, two pellet boilers were delivered in 2021: FACI 258 in the BASE configuration (258 kW output). The task of providing the resort with 500 kW of heat for that season was accomplished.

2. At the second stage, building eco-houses and increasing the number of hotel rooms led to higher heat consumption. As a result, in 2022 TeploTrend, the official dealer of the FACI-RUS Plant, selected and delivered a FACI 455 kW pellet boiler. This provided an output reserve and made it possible to use the boiler as an additional one when the resort is fully booked.

A boiler house was built for the pellet equipment, divided into three parts for convenience:
1) a pellet store with an automatic conveyor for loading fuel into the boiler hopper, similar to the FACI DI STRADA automatic fuel feed;
2) the boiler room housing three FACI boilers (equipped with supply and exhaust ventilation);
3) a technical room where heat energy was accumulated in a buffer tank and then distributed to the consumers' houses.

3. At the final stage of the work, to ensure non-stop operation of the boiler house, all boilers were connected in cascade and heated together with a buffer tank with a volume of more than 6 m3. This solution made it possible to save fuel when there was no need to use all the boilers,alternate the boilers' operation,, store heat energy  without sharp temperature fluctuations,evenly and efficiently distribute it among consumers, and also carry out maintenanceor repair of the boilers without switching off the heating system.

Results

From 2021 to 2023, a full range of work related to installing the heating system and automating its operation was carried out at UezD EliseEva.
Following the technical recommendations, the customer carried out the installation and construction work on its own.
All tasks set by the customer were successfully accomplished. The rooms are warm even on the harshest winter days, and the pool water is constantly kept at 35-37 degrees.
