Economical heat: six years of real-life experience with a FACI boiler

10.03.2023

In October 2016, MegaPack needed to heat a 6000 m³ warehouse. Having made a well-considered decision to use FACI boilers, the company has managed to save more than RUB 500,000 a year on heating an important infrastructure facility.

Since 2007, MegaPack has supplied packaging equipment and materials to the timber processing, metallurgical, construction and food industries, as well as for road construction and agriculture. Due to strict requirements for the safe storage of materials, heating the warehouse became a key issue. FACI representatives undertook to help solve the problem, as our company has many years of experience in manufacturing industrial heating boilers, including for warehouses.

To heat the warehouse, they used a FACI 130 pellet boiler with an output of 130 kW -this equipment, with an efficiency of up to 95%, proved optimal for heating in terms of both technical parameters and price. The boiler was installed in 2016.

Heating economics with the FACI 130 (130 kW) boiler:

In 6 years of operation, fuel consumption per season has been 54 tonnes. The current pellet price in the Vologda Region is RUB 8,000 per tonne in big bags. Maximum consumption in the coldest month is 12 tonnes. Total: annual heating costs amounted to RUB 432,000, or about RUB 61,714 per month.

Let's calculate the cost of 1 kWh:

Given:

7 months of heating season

Pellet consumption 54 tonnes

Price per tonne RUB 8,000.

Total: RUB 432,000.

1 1 kg of pellets = 5 kWh (when burned).

Task:

What is the cost of 1 kW?

Solution:

54 tonnes = 54,000 kg.

54,000 kg x 5 kWh x 93% efficiency = 251,100 kWh

432,000 / 251,100 kWh = 1.72 per 1 kWh

This is almost 2.5 times cheaperthan electric heating (RUB 4.7 per 1 kWh).

It is easy to calculate that the companysaved RUB 659,000 in a yearcompared with electric heating, and the boiler paid for itself in just one heating season. The owners are completely satisfied with the result and recommend our equipment to all their partners.
