Why should a pellet boiler only have a twin-auger fuel feed?

22.06.2022

A fire is a great disaster. Fire destroys everything in its path; in a matter of minutes people are left without a roof over their heads and property accumulated over years, and sometimes lose what is priceless - human lives.

WHY IS A SINGLE-AUGER FUEL FEED DANGEROUS?

When the boiler reaches the required temperature, it goes into standby mode. Air and fuel are no longer supplied, and passive smouldering takes place. Pellets burn very well even with little air, and even a sealed fuel hopper does not help here.
The same happens in the event of a sudden power cut.
If the boiler stays in this mode long enough, the smouldering will inevitably spread to the fuel hopper. This threatens to ignite the pellets in the fuel hopper or, at best, fill the room with smoke. You can lose not only your good mood but also your home, a warehouse full of goods, a production workshop or any other premises. Any fire means colossal losses.

To protect against such trouble, many pellet boiler manufacturers install a fire valve that supplies water and extinguishes the fuel feed when its temperature rises. But what if the fuel feed heated up for some other reason? - the boiler is extinguished. What if it is night and nobody is in the building? - the system cools down completely. And what happens after water gets into the pellets? First they absorb it and swell, then, due to the still hot fuel feed, they start to dry out and turn into something like chipboard. All this will have to be cleaned out, and you will no longer be able to pull the auger out of the fuel feed without a sledgehammer.

FACI TAKES A DIFFERENT APPROACH

All FACI pellet and wood chip boilers are equipped with a fuel feed temperature sensor.
If smouldering spreads along the fuel feed, the sensor immediately detects it and the lower auger switches on. The fuel feed simply pushes the burnt pellets into the combustion chamber and never lets the smouldering reach the hopper.

And what happens if the power goes off?

The sensor and the fuel feed will not work - they simply have no power. But our boilers are equipped with a twin-auger fuel feed! There is always an empty space between the upper and lower augers where there is simply nothing to burn. So the smouldering physically cannot reach the hopper. In addition, to make you feel even safer and more confident, we have equipped the boiler with the ability to control the two augers independently. When fuel is fed into the combustion chamber and the boiler sees that there is enough fuel, the upper auger switches off first while the lower one still pushes the fuel, so that the gap is even larger and smouldering is guaranteed not to reach the hopper.

Take care of your home, take care of your business. A fire is always a great disaster, loss of life, destruction of buildings and property. Choose only reliable, time-tested equipment!
