A heating boiler is a heat exchange device built on the closed-vessel principle. Its main function is space heating or domestic hot water (DHW) in private houses and apartment buildings without central heating.

Types of home heating boilers

Gas boilers

Today they rightly top every heating boiler rating. They are preferred because they are cheap to buy and to run. They are usually connected directly to the gas mains, but if there is none, almost any model can easily be converted to run on liquefied gas from a cylinder or gas tank. Gas boilers differ by combustion chamber type:
  • Open type. Combustion air is taken from a dedicated boiler room that houses all the heating equipment. Additional supply ventilation is required.
  • Closed type. Combustion air is drawn from outside through a separate flue.
Units are also divided into single-circuit and dual-circuit. Dual-circuit Italian boilers are more popular because they provide both heating and hot water for domestic needs. For convenience and safety they use automation and built-in automatic ignition.

Manual solid fuel boilers

They run on cheap fuels such as coal, firewood and briquettes. Main advantages:
  1. fuel is readily available;
  2. safe operation;
  3. environmentally friendly.
Solid fuel wood-burning boilers need a chimney with good draught and regular cleaning of the combustion chamber. The drawback is that fuel has to be loaded quite often.

Pellet boilers

FACI pellet boilers are considered the most advanced of all solid fuel equipment. They are designed to generate heat from pellets — cylindrical granules made by processing waste wood, peat, and sunflower and buckwheat husks. The units are equipped with an automatic fuel feed system that lets them run fully autonomously for several days.

Semi-automatic boilers

The main difference from manual boilers is a certain degree of automation. They are stationary heating units that automatically maintain the set heat-carrier temperature by controlling the intensity of the fan air supply. Boilers with Italian automation include a programmable control unit.

Automatic coal boilers

They have a big advantage over manual solid fuel units because they need no constant supervision or attendance. There are two main types of fuel feed mechanism: drum and auger. Coal consumption of automatic units is much lower than that of manual ones.

Automatic wood chip boilers

This type of equipment, fired with wood chips, is an almost fully autonomous station that needs refuelling only a few times per heating season. This is achieved by an automatic system feeding fuel into the hopper and the combustion chamber. FACI FSS boilers are widely bought to heat industrial and office premises. They are also a natural choice for heat supply companies serving municipal and residential buildings.

How a boiler works

Every heating boiler design includes several essential elements:
  1. heat-insulated casing;
  2. combustion chamber;
  3. heat exchanger;
  4. control and safety devices.
All types of boilers, regardless of the fuel used, work on the same principle:
  1. Fuel burns in a controlled way in a special chamber of the unit.
  2. The heat released is transferred through the heat exchange system to the heat carrier, which is usually water, antifreeze or steam.
  3. A pump built into the system circulates the heat carrier through the entire heating circuit of the house.

How to choose a boiler for your home?

To choose the type and model of heating equipment, consider all the main criteria:
  1. Type of fuel. Available options.
  2. Power dependence. Some models cannot work without a connection to the electricity grid.
  3. Number of circuits. Whether you need both heating and hot water at the same time.
  4. Output. An accurate calculation based on your needs is required.
  5. Control system. Manual and automatic adjustment options.
  6. Combustion chamber type. Open or closed. Affects additional installation requirements.
  7. Weight, dimensions, installation method.

FACI home heating boilers

FACI, a company with a world-famous name, invites you to choose an Italian boiler to heat your home. Imported boilers of this brand have been supplied to Russia since 2004, and in 2014 a full-cycle production plant was opened in Chelyabinsk.
